Blue Abacus is working with government agencies, universities, NGO's and more to gather data on marine life around the globe. From 2020 to mid 2024 we have manufactured and delivered nearly 400 stereo calibrated carbon fibre BRUVS rigs. Our processing team has counted over 87,000 individual animals and identified over 650 unique taxa.
PROJECTS
Global Ocean Wildlife Analysis Network
GOWAN is part of the United Kingdom Government's Blue Belt programme. Commencing in 2021 Blue Abacus delivered BRUVS units to UK Overseas Territories in the Atlantic, Pacific, Indian and Southern Oceans. Since that time Overseas Territory members of the network have conducted over 20 surveys capturing thousands of hours of video samples.
Universities
Universities around the world are using Blue Abacus BRUVS as a crucial tool for research on marine life. From investigations on the impact of man made structures such as offshore wind farms and oil and gas platforms to witnessing previously unseen behavior of marine species, Blue Abacus BRUVS provide an effective mechanism for learning more about what is under the surface of our oceans
NGOs
Blue Abacus is delighted to be the choice of world leaders in marine conservation. From ZSL's Project SIARC in Wales, United Kingdom to Save Our Seas work in the Seychelles each of these NGOs increases our understanding of ocean life and the need for us to act to preserve it. The Nature Conservancy has been studying remote Palmyra whereas the Prince Albert II Foundation is studying local marine parks near Monaco. World Fish brought BRUVS to the coast of Kenya in 2024, Pristine Seas has been deploying Blue Abacus BRUVS from the incredible M/V Argo in numerous locations since 2021.
